BBC's live broadcast of the Olympic Games 2024 from Paris experienced an unexpected interruption when cleaners appeared on screen, leaving viewers in shock.

As sports fans settled in to watch the diving contests on Saturday, they were greeted with the unexpected sight of two men cleaning outside while presenter Hazel Irvine and expert Tonia Couch provided commentary.

Quick to respond with her wit, Hazel joked, "Can you see this behind me? Because we've got two gentlemen fixing our studio. I don't think they know they're on telly at the moment!"

Oblivious to their sudden fame, the cleaners carried on with their duties, causing viewers to flood social media with puzzled and amused comments. The impromptu feature became a humorous talking point as spectators took to platforms such as Twitter to share their take on the moment.

Among the array of comments, one viewer exclaimed: "Live Olympic window cleaning on the BBC!" Another observed wryly: "Window cleaners have just turned up on the BBC coverage."

A third added their astonishment with: "Just a casual bit of window cleaning in the middle of the BBC coverage.", reports the Mirror.

Yet another noted the weather conditions, stating: "The rain is still TIPPING down in Paris. And now the BBC has had to get the window cleaners in whilst they're on air." (sic)

A fifth viewer joked about the cleaners' potential athletic ambitions: "I didn't know window cleaning now qualified as an Olympic sport."

Viewers also expressed their confusion and frustration after BBC opted to utilise a green screen to imitate an outdoor setting for an interview segment, despite broadcasting directly from Paris.

The odd choice of backdrop occurred during a discussion hosted by Jeanette Kwakye featuring JJ Chalmers and Fred Sirieix as the day's sports coverage kicked off.

The peculiar decision to swap the breathtaking vistas of Paris for computer-generated imagery came under fire from spectators, particularly when the set-up is positioned with the stunning Eiffel Tower within sight.

A viewer scathingly commented on social media: "This green screen stuff is horrific. Stop it. You've got a studio in Paris looking at the Eiffel Tower ffs." (sic)
