The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series two trailer
A new trailer for the upcoming season 2 of Rings of Power showed the ominous threat of Sauron as he grows in power. Set thousands of years before the events of the highly popular Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films, the Prime Video series covers the creation of the Rings of Power, an alliance between Elves and Men, and how the Dark Lord Sauron came to power.
The latest trailer, first shown at San Diego Comic Con on Friday (July 26), focuses on the long-feared reemergence of the legendary villain Sauron, heralding the return of darkness and evil to Middle-earth after many years of hard-fought peace among all of its realms.
The trailer also highlighted the creation of more of the titular Rings of Power, forged with the aid of Sauron’s powers of deception and manipulation.
While Sauron will be the main focus of Season 2 of Rings of Power, frightening creatures from across the Lord of the Rings world will be introduced.
Viewers will see a young Shelob, an army of Barrow-wights, Hill-troll Damrod, a Sea Worm, and even Ents.
The second series will also see the return of many fan favourite characters, including Galadriel, Elrond, Prince Durin IV, Arondir, and Celebrimbor and the much-anticipated creation of more Rings.
A teaser for Season 2 by Amazon Studios reads: “In Season Two of The Rings of Power, Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without an army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will.
“Building on Season One’s epic scope and ambition, the new season plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity.
“As friendships are strained and kingdoms begin to fracture, the forces of good—Elves and dwarves, orcs and men, wizards and Harfoots—will struggle ever more valiantly to hold on to what matters to them most of all: each other.”
The Rings of Power cast will remain the same in the upcoming season. The show stars Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Charlie Vickers will return as Sauron, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Owain Arthur as Khazad-dûm Prince Durin, Benjamin Walker as Gil-galad, and much more.
Adar has been recast with Joseph Mawle departing the role and being replaced by Sam Hazeldine. Mawle wrote on social media: "I loved my time exploring Middle-earth and diving into Tolkien's mythology.
"I'm so honored that the character was liked. He cared deeply about telling you his story. Though as an actor it remains my wish, my job description, to explore new characters and worlds. Wishing all the best to cast and crew for S2, I'll be cheering you on from the sidelines."
The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Prime Video on August 29, 2024.
