Escape to the Country: House hunters overwhelmed by property

An Escape to the Country couple were left reeling after their quest for a dream house was brought to an unexpected halt. During the Friday segment of the popular BBC show, Alistair Appleton was on a crusade to assist a duo in locating their ideal residence.

Jon and his wife Jo had set their sights on commencing a fresh existence in Wiltshire. The stakes were high for Appleton due to the fact that two decades ago, the couple sold their previous dwelling and spent an impressive six years globe-trotting.

Starting the conversation, Jon revealed: "We live a slightly different life and a bit more nomadic."

His wife continued: "We had a bit of a change in our lifestyle six years ago."

"We have just decided it was time to shake things up a bit because our children had left home," reports Wales Online.

stated Jon, adding, "So we decided to go out and see the rest of the world."

Explaining their decision to establish new roots in Wiltshire, Jo shed light on their reasoning with: "We've done a few house visits in this area and we just love the countryside around here and it just feels comfortable for us."

Poised with a budget of £325,000, they desired a property brimming with character, preferably featuring at least two bedrooms, an open plan kitchen-diner, a quaint garden, and within walking distance to a village. A series of property viewings were arranged by Appleton but it was one specific house in Devizes Marina that took the pair by surprise - a type of residence they'd not previously considered.

They visited a luxury lodge, one of eight properties situated by the marina. Alistair enthused: "I couldn't help but show you this. It has two bathrooms, two bedrooms, lots of space to entertain, a hot tub so what's not to love? ".

The couple were left stunned when they discovered that the property was within their budget, priced at £175,000.

Alistair highlighted that if they bought the property, they would have sufficient funds to invest in a canal boat.

In conversation with a local resident who owns a boat, Jon enquired: "How much would something like this cost? " The resident disclosed: "We are talking about 120 up to 140 and it depends what spec you are looking for. Maybe you'll start off with one for about £80,000."

Jon responded: "It's not bad, a caravan on a site would cost a lot more. "Alistair queried: "Could you imagine being on the water or not?"Jo answered: "Yes absolutely, I love the water.

Jon added: "This could cause us all sorts of problems now couldn't it? Our heads are spinning completely."

The couple continued to explore different properties but ultimately, they were left disheartened as they didn't place any offers and stated that the hunt for their dream home goes on.
