Naga confused by Charlie saying 'doing some bird'

BBC Breakfast's Naga Munchetty was left confused as Charlie Stayt discussed "doing some bird" live on air during the latest instalment of the morning show.

The dynamic duo were back on the famous red sofa on Friday (July 26) to share the latest headlines from across the globe with viewers watching at home.

One story they discussed was a brazen seagull who has joined Britain's growing shopligting epidemic after stealing food from a B&M store.

Bemused customer Ethan Denton caught the peckish seagull, nicknamed Steven, after a play on words of Hollywood actor Steven Seagal's name - stealing on video.

Charlie asked Naga: "Do you think if Steven gets caught, he'll end up doing some bird?" After an awkward pause, she said: "What? What's that mean" The presenter continued: "Do you not know what that means?"

Naga pointed out: "It sounds odd. Doing some bird?" Charlie then turned to weather presenter Matt Taylor for some reassurance asking: "Do you know what that means?"

Matt confirmed he had heard the phrase before but Naga interjected saying: "Really? It sounds very wrong. Matt, clean this up please." The phrase "Doing some bird" is cockney rhyming slang for prison time.

It comes after Naga was named among the top 10 highest earning BBC stars of the past year after taking home a £345,000 - £349,999 salary. It marks an impressive £10,000 increase on her earnings from last year but is £20,000 down from what she took home in 2022.

The TV and radio star, 49, managed to land the huge six-figure sum thanks to her role as a regular Thursday-Saturday host as well as her presenting roles on her self-titled Radio 5 Live programme as well as Panorama.

On top of being the top BBC Breakfast earner, Naga is also the fourth highest-earning woman at the corporation after BBC Radio 2 star Zoe Ball, Question Time's Fiona Bruce and radio and The One Show star Lauren Laverne.

Naga's pay is significantly higher than her BBC Breakfast co-host Charlie Stayt's which stood at £190,000 - £194,999. However, he does not have the same amount of projects outside of the show as Naga.

BBC Breakfast airs daily on BBC One at 6am
