GMB's Kate Garraway sparks concern as star still missing after medical emergency

Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway was replaced on the ITV show following a family emergency.

The presenter, 57, took unexpected leave from the programme to support her father, who is in critical condition following a suspected stroke and heart attack. The broadcaster made a swift departure from ITV studios last Tuesday (16 July) after receiving the distressing news about her dad, Gordon.

Kate had stepped in for Susanna Reid while she is on her summer break, however, after her abrupt departure, Ranvir Singh filled in for her Thursday (July 19) appearance.

GMB viewers were updated via the show's Twitter account that Richard Madeley would be joining Ranvir, with the tweet stating: "Today. Join Ranvir and Richard from 6 am on ITV1." Kate has also been missing from the ITV programme this week, with Ranvir hosting with Robert Rinder on Thursday (July 26).

A source disclosed to The Sun just how serious the situation was, saying: "Very sadly, Kate's father collapsed earlier this week while staying, along with her mum and her brother in Cornwall.

"It was incredibly frightening as he was found unconscious and immediately taken to hospital. It seems likely that he's had a stroke and possibly a heart attack as well - doctors are still doing tests."

The insider added "He remains in hospital and is currently stable but, understandably, it's given the whole family a terrible scare and they are praying he can recover." Concerns over Kate's sudden absence have been circulating among fans, sparking worried reactions on social media, with one comment noting: "Guessing Kate's off #GMB because of her dad... sending love."

In a heart-wrenching revelation, Kate Garraway has shared the painful details of her family's ordeal following the death of her beloved husband, Derek Draper. The former political adviser had been fighting a valiant battle against COVID-19 since March 2020, which led to an extended period of hospitalisation due to severe organ damage.

Derek's struggle included a medically induced coma, and he became known as the UK's longest-suffering Covid patient after spending more than a year in hospital. His fight was marked by numerous complications, including kidney failure, brain inflammation, and damage to his liver and lungs.

On January 5, Kate announced the heartbreaking news of Derek's passing in a statement. She said: "Derek was surrounded by his family in his final days and I was by his side holding his hand throughout the last long hours and when he passed."

Kate expressed that there is much more she wishes to share about the challenges they have endured and promised to do so when the time is right. In the interim, she offers profound gratitude to the healthcare workers who tirelessly worked to support Derek and ensure that his last moments were spent with peace and dignity.
