GMB: Ranvir delivers news on France's rail networks

Ranvir Singh brought Good Morning Britain to a sudden halt as she shared "breaking news" from Paris. The 46-year-old hosted the ITV show alongside Robert Rinder as they shared the latest on the 2024 Olympics opening ceremony, taking place this evening (July 26).

Instead of the traditional parade round a stadium track, more than 8,000 of the world’s top athletes will be transported by boat along 6km of the River Seine.

But in a major news announcement from Paris, Ranvir revealed that vandals have targeted France’s high-speed TGV network with a series of coordinated actions, causing huge disruption to the city.

"Its high-speed network has been targeted by malicious acts aimed at taking the rail system down. It comes ahead of the ceremony on the River Seine that will officially get the games underway."

"More than 100 heads of state are due to be there, a billion people going to watch, but this breaking news this morning suggests there are some criminal acts going on to try and bring everything to a halt."

Jonathan Swaine, a correspondent for GMB, was live from Paris to share the latest on the incident. "These acts are being condemned by the French transport minister, criminal acts designed to clearly disrupt everything here," he explained.

The ITV star revealed that just days earlier, French police disrupted a terror plot against the opening ceremony.

Two 18-year-olds living in the Gironde region of France were arrested on charges of preparing one or more terrorist attacks, France's National Terrorism Prosecution Office confirmed to CBS News on Thursday (July 26).

This is the reason for added security in Paris. The opening ceremony will begin at Austerlitz bridge and end among the gardens, fountains and palaces in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.

It will feature 100 boats carrying more than 10,000 athletes, plus dignitaries, which will sail past Paris' iconic landmarks, including Notre Dame cathedral.

As well as transporting the athletes in the parade, the boats will also be used in the artistic part of the ceremony, which will showcase the history and culture of Paris and France. Other details, like the identity of performers, are being kept secret, but there are sure to be some surprise appearances.
