Clive Myrie presents BBC Proms from Royal Albert Hall
BBC presenter Clive Myrie made a bold choice leading to backlash from fan, as the Royal Albert Hall's annual classical music concerts began on Friday. He was joined by co-presenter Sandi Toksvig, as they opened the debut show for BBC Proms.
The concerts are set to run for eight weeks, with the opening show featuring an all-female line-up, featuring the likes of soprano Sophie Bevan, pianist Isata Kanneh-Mason and conductor Elim. Some of the biggest names in classical music will be joining the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Singers and the BBC Symphony Chorus over the next few weeks.
While the prestigious event wowed some fans, others couldn't help but be distracted by presenter Clive. They took to social media to complain about his outfit, as they quipped that he had "got the wrong memo".
The 59-year-old Mastermind host chose to wear a red neckerchief along with a yellow shirt and black suit. He completed the cold look with yellow trainers.
But fans were less than impressed with the loud outfit decision as they complained on X (formerly Twitter). One asked: "What is Clive Myrie wearing on the Proms.
"Looks like he got the wrong memo and thought he was presenting Glastonbury." Another penned: "Clive Myrie doing this dressed as Harry H Corbett in Steptoe and Son? #BBCProms."
A third quipped: "Clive Myrie looks like he should be driving a team train whilst waving cheerily to the Famous Five as they set off on an adventure. #BBCProms."
Meanwhile, others loved the look and showered the presenter with praise. "@CliveMyrieBBC Enjoying #TheProms and your rather jaunty neckerchief! You wear it well, Clive," one person enthused. While another posted: "Loving Clive's get-up.#BBCProms #Proms2024."

The event will run throughout summer to Saturday, September 14, 2024. Many of the live performances will take place at the Royal Albert Hall across the two months. Meanwhile, some others will be held in Coventry, Nottingham and more.
This evening's show will see the sound of disco celebrated, with iconic hits from Chic, Gloria Gaynor, Diana Ross, Boney M. and Walter Murphy.
The evening will celebrate a pivotal movement in late 20th-century club culture and the glorious music it produced.
