Emmerdale's Les could be making a return to the soap, following Matty Barton’s prison release.

The character (Stacey J Gough) was introduced to viewers back this month, as the cellmate of Matty (Ash Palmisciano) Beloved villager Matty was sent to prison after troublemaker Josh Cope (Osian Morgan) and Samson Dingle (Sam Hall) attempted to rob The Hide.

The pair threatened Matty and things quickly escalated though, when Josh pushed Samson into Matty - who was holding a knife - causing Samson to get stabbed.

Both Josh and Samon lied and said Matty deliberately caused the injury, and as a result, Matty was sent to prison. While in jail, Matty was left fearing for his life that his transgender identity would paint a target on his back.

However, he was able to confide in cellmate Les, who had his back and defended Matty against transphobic Robbo (John O’Neill). In a blow to Matty though, Les was released from prison shortly after he arrived - making Matty feel even more fearful.

And in a desperate attempt to get out prison, Matty got Les to beat him up before he left. Unfortunately for Matty though, after a hospital stay, he quickly found himself back in prison.

Following Les’ appearance on the soap, fans were left begging bosses to make him a permanent character. On X, one person said: “Emmerdale has introduced so many useless characters in the last couple of years, I hope they’ve got the sense to make Les permanent. He’s been great so far.”

Someone else added: “Any chance we can keep Les as a character I quite like him.” A third penned: “Can Les become a regular?.”

Now, fans are certain that Les will be making a comeback. In episodes this week, following Samson’s confession, Matty was able to leave prison.

He soon arrived back in the village - much to the delight of his wife Amy (Natalie Ann Jamieson) and mum Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb).

Later in the evening though, it was clear Matty was still processing the trauma from being in prison. And in emotional scenes, he suffered flashbacks about his time behind bars.

Straight away, fans were left fearing Matty will be dealing with PTSD in an upcoming storyline. But viewers also reckon this could see the return of former cellmate Les, to “help” Matty.

Over on an Emmerdale Facebook fan page, one viewer mused: “Such a shame the writers haven't kept les Matty's cellmate on as a permanent character what does everyone else think?”

A second fan replied: “Maybe they could bring him back down the line? Matty could have some sort of breakdown and he comes back to help?”

A third chimed in and agreed: “I thought the same,” as another penned: “Yup I think Matty will have a breakdown quickly tbh bless him.”

Echoing their thoughts, someone else wrote: “He’ll probably come back if Matty starts suffering with post-traumatic stress disorder.”
