In the latest episode of The Jetty, viewers discovered that the storyline is playing out over two distinct timelines.

One timeline is set in the present and features Detective Ember Manning (Jenna Coleman), while the other delves into the past life of her late husband Malachy 'Mack' (Tom Glynn-Carney).

The plot thickened when Ember stumbled upon a photograph of Mack with Amy Knightley (Bo Bragason), a young girl who disappeared more than ten years ago.

Now, Ember must unravel the mystery of her husband's connection to the missing teenager, fearing the worst.

However, as the most recent episode aired, it appeared that some viewers were left puzzled, not realising the narrative was shifting between the past and present.

One viewer took to Twitter to express their confusion: "Is this jumping back and forth in time? I hadn't realised that."

Another tweeted: "Two episodes in and only just realised the two schoolgirls are the missing girl and friend. ", reports the Mirror.

Another viewer commented: " #TheJetty flashbacks need to be time-stamped if you're padding out a program with them and can't be bothered providing a quality soundtrack."

One viewer admitted: "On ep2 of #TheJetty and only just realised they're showing the two different timelines. No wonder I was getting confused, thinking it was all happening present time,".

Despite the confusion, one viewer managed to spot the difference, writing: "Enjoying the jetty to a certain extent, but is anyone else having trouble working out flashbacks to the present."

Audience members have been full of praise for Jenna Coleman's new drama show 'Jetty', with some fans proclaiming it as the "best show of the year" and even one of the best of the decade.

One fan said: "Jenna Coleman's Jetty isn't just the best show of the year it's one of the best shows of all time and definitely the best show of the 2020s," while another expressed: "Best show of the year! Jenna Coleman is superb!"

Coleman, who plays Ember in the series, offered a tantalising snippet on what viewers can expect from her character going forward.

She revealed: "Throughout the series, Ember is really propelled forward towards the truth, towards the answers, towards the case - but as she's moving forward trying to solve the case, her past is always catching up with her.

"The more she unravels of the case, the more she has to re-examine and re-define her own past, and in doing so her own past relationships and her own identity."

The Jetty is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
