Death in Paradise's Don on how his character will change
Death in Paradise has kept the nation gripped since it first aired back over a decade ago in 2011 with Ben Miller playing lead DI Richard Poole.
Over the years, BBC fans have seen a string of lead detectives front the show, with it most recently being Neville Parker (played by Ralf Little).
Earlier this year, viewers were left heartbroken when the DI decided to leave Saint Marie for pastures anew with love interest Florence Cassell (Joséphine Jobert).
However, the BBC confirmed that actor Don Gilet will be joining the cast later this year as he’s set to be taking over from DI Parker as Mervin Wilson.
With the show continuing to be a success, many fans are anticipating the festive special later this year with a new series airing in 2025.
Although there have been many actors coming and going over the years, one star has remained on the show since it began, Don Warrington as Police Commissioner Selwyn Patterson.
Speaking to Death in Paradise producer Tony Jordan, the actor reflected on his time on the BBC show.
He said: “People ask me this, they say, ‘What’s the secret? Why is it so successful?’
“I say, ‘I have no idea’. But, there does seem to be something. There does seem to be some chemistry in it that catches the imagination of young and old.

“Surprisingly enough, and it is a surprise to me, young people, like teenagers love it really and I don’t know what it is.”
Agreeing, Tony confessed he has no idea will work, despite having worked in television for many years.
The producer continues to speak about Don’s character, revealing he believes Selwyn is the glue that holds the whole show together.
Asking how he’s found his long-running character, the actor replied: “I think that Selwyn has developed over the years.
“I’m not sure anybody in the very beginning knew a lot about Selwyn, I think people knew they wanted a figure, a boss figure.
“But, he has become much more than that and I think the writers have looked into Selwyn and slowly developed around, him a life.”
Touching on the character’s relationships within the show, both family and work colleagues, Don stated Selwyn has been given more quality over the years.
