After the BBC announced a joint production with CBS Studios for a brand new period drama series in March, filming has officially been wrapped on the upcoming show, King & Conquerer. The BBC previously revealed the series will star Game of Thrones star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who starred in the hit show from 2011 to 2019 as Jaime Lannister, will appear as William, Duke of Normandy.

James Norton will star as Harold, Earl of Wessex, Emily Beecham as Edith Swan-neck, and Clemence Poesy as Matilda, the wife of William of Normandy. Also announced was Eddie Marsan as King Edward, Juliet Stevenson as Lady Emma, Jean-Marc Barr as King Henry, Luther Ford as Tostig and Geoff Bell as Godwin.

Now the broadcaster has shared further casting updates with Elander Moore as Morcar, Indy Lewis as Margaret, Jason Forbes as Thane Thomas, Ingvar Sigurdsson as Fitzosbern. Rounding up the list is actress Ines Asserson as Judith and Sveinn Olafur Gunnarsson as Hardrada.

The eight-part historical drama has now officially wrapped up filming in Iceland, the BBC has confirmed. It series has been written by Michael Robert Jonhson whose previous work includes Sherlock Holmes and The Frankenstein Chronicles.

It's also been revealed that the very first episode will be directed by Baltasar Kormakur and will be aired on both BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The sypnosis reads: "King & Conqueror is the story of a clash that defined the future of a country – and a continent – for a thousand years.

"The roots of which stretch back decades and extend out through a pair of interconnected family dynasties, struggling for power across two countries and a raging sea.

"Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy were two men destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066; two allies with no design on the British throne, who found themselves forced by circumstance and personal obsession into a war for possession of its crown."

The BBC has acquired broadcasting rights in the United Kingdom and it will be distributed overseas by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Danish actor Nikolaj, 53, achieved plenty of critical acclaim for his role as Jaime Lannister in the hit series, Game of Thrones.

He received the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actor on Television and a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama series.

Nikolaj was also nominated for two Primtime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

King & Conquerer is expected to air in 2025 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
