Coronation Street fans were left cheering at their screens as a beloved character made a surprise return.
Alex Warner, played by Liam Bairstow, first appeared on the soap back in 2015. As the nephew of Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill), Alex quickly became a firm favourite with fans.
He also bagged a job working in the famous Roy’s Rolls cafe, owned by Roy Cropper (David Neilson). However, he has been mysteriously absent for a while.
But during Monday’s episode (July 15) Alex was back on the soap and working in the cafe.
Viewers who tuned in saw Alex and soap icon Rita Tanner (Barbara Knox) have a conversation in the Roy’s’ Rolls. And it’s fair to say fans were delighted at Alex’s return.
Rushing over to X, formerly known as Twitter, plenty were left over the moon to see Alex on screens again.
“Welcome back Alex!” said one fan. Someone else penned: “We need more Alex.” A third chimed in and wrote: “Give Alex a storyline!”
Another proclaimed: “Heard chatter that Alex was gonna be back in #Corrie, and I'm happy to report it's true. One of the rare characters that represents everything classic Corrie. You got me tuning back in lad!”

Corrie made history when they hired Liam to play Alex. Producer Stuart Blackburn announced the show was casting its first actor with Down’s syndrome at a press day held in 2015.
He said: “It’s not some politically correct thing. We actually found there a really great actor with a wonderful sense of timing. The cast have been really enjoying working with him.”
