EastEnders: Whitney Dean leaves Walford
Former EastEnders actor Tony Discipline has made a comeback to the world of soaps.
Discipline rose to fame portraying Tyler Moon in the BBC One soap, arriving in Walford with his brother Anthony (played by Matt Lapinskas) in 2011.
The duo certainly stirred up some drama in the square. However, Tyler's most notable storyline revolved around his tumultuous relationship with Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty).
In 2013, Tyler bid farewell to Walford, opting to join Anthony on a cruise ship. Post-departure, he appeared in Celebrity Juice and several short films.
Yet, in 2020, he announced that he had hung up his acting boots to pursue a career as a firefighter. This revelation came as a surprise to his social media followers when he posted a picture of himself in his new uniform on Instagram, reports MyLondon.
He also shared a photo of himself standing in front of a fire engine, donned in hi-vis trousers and a red London Fire Brigade T-shirt.
However, this month saw Tony return to our screens, featuring in BBC's Doctors. The series, which centres around the doctors and staff at a bustling Midlands GP practice, has been a television mainstay and fan favourite since its inception in 2000.
In the Birmingham-based soap, Tony took on the role of David Marsden. His character's storyline involved following his estranged wife to the doctor's practice after hours.
With the help of receptionist Kirsty Millar (portrayed by Kiruna Stamell), the new parents were able to resolve their issues.
Despite his departure from EastEnders over a decade ago, Tyler has recently expressed his openness to a Walford comeback. Speaking to The Sun, he said: "I loved my time there. It was a great chapter in my life and if the opportunity ever came up, I would definitely be interested."
"Tyler's still alive, so it could happen. He left to join his brother Anthony on a cruise. They must have got stuck in the Arctic because it's been a long old cruise! " he quipped.
In other news, the Birmingham-based soap Doctors is set to leave our screens this year. Last year, the BBC announced the cancellation of the much-loved series, with its final episode scheduled for December 2024.
The decision, as explained by the network chiefs, was due to "increased expenses."
