Carol Kirkwood presents the weather on BBC Breakfast

BBC Breakfast fans were concerned for health as she returned to the show following an absence. Viewers noticed a change in the Scottish weather presenter's voice after she was missing from the show last week, with Matt Taylor and Sarah Keith-Lucas forced to step in.

While many were delighted to see the 61-year-old return to work this week, others were distracted and worried about her voice sounding "croaky". Fans of the show flocked to social media to share their support for the star.

One user posted to X (formerly Twitter), as they said: "@BBCBreakfast someone please give Carol a throat sweet, she sounds terrible."

Another added: "Good morning. You sounded a little croaky this morning. Hope you OK." Meanwhile, a third joked: "Carol sounds like she's been on a mad one all weekend. This woman needs a Lemsip."

Carol appears to have been struggling with her voice for a number of weeks now after she previously complained that she was losing her voice while on the show.

Before taking some time off, her co-stars applauded the weathercaster for making it through the show despite sounding rough.

Sally Nugent applauded her for continuing to host her segment despite issues with her voice as she said: "Carol, I know you'll be keeping an eye on that [Storm Kathleen], and well done - we've got to the end of Breakfast and your voice has survived. It's an achievement. Go and rest."

Carol also joked with Jon Kay about the state of her voice.

When he asked her for the forecast, she quipped: "For my voice, Jon? It's looking a bit ropey."

Despite the issue being acknowledged on the BBC programme, Carol hasn't actually shared any details about her sore throat.

BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
