Bargain Hunt: Presenter introduces dedicated trains episode

Bargain Hunt viewers were left unimpressed as the popular BBC daytime show offered up a compilation episode for the Bank Holiday Monday (May 6). Eric Knowles presented the special, which focused on railway memorabilia or "railwayana" to give it the correct title.

Fans at home felt the programme had gone off track with the special though. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, they declared they had "turned off" the show.
@JanetLockwood18 fumed: "Very disappointed to see that this is another mash up of previous programmes Aka repeats turned off." @BlakeleyLegal raged: "Introduced as “NEW”!! NO IT IS NOT!!! IT’S A COMPILATION!!!"
@MJ_JJ061215 was unamused writing: "No thanks...don't like "specials". It's Monday, so it should be a new episode." @nightdragon666 seethed: "Please don’t announce it as ‘new’. It’s just repeats dressed up."
@YTVChase tried to see the rfight side writing: "The good news is it’s a new episode. The bad news, it’s a compilation of old s**** from previous episodes. #bargainhunt." Meanwhile @arthursummersel simply said: "FFS Another cobbled together episode. Not a new one #bargainhunt."

The episode took a whistlestop tour through six previous tams who had all invested in railway memorabilia while appearing on the show.

Introducing the programme from the Didcot Railway Centre in Oxfordshire Eric explained he was taking a "very special journey through the Bargain Hunt archives".

The episode featured lots of facts about railways and trains in between the clips. At one point Eric explained how to avoid buying repro railway signs at antiques fairs and centre.

It also featured a team stumbling upon an old railway horn which had the British Railway stamp.

Although the item looked quite old, Eric revealed that these horns were the percursor to the Mind the Gap announcements and were used up until the 1980s.

Seemingly they can be collectable although there are a lot around but Eric informed viewers that a really good one can go for up to £200.

Bargain Hunt is on BBC One weekdays at 12.15pm.
