Call The Midwife took to Instagram to post some behind the scenes images from filming which give fans an idea what to expect from the forthcoming Christmas special and season fourteen. The photos show the actors in character at the fun fair and they have acknowledged that the carnival will be coming to Poplar. "When the cast arrived at the studio to start shooting the latest Christmas Special this week, they were treated to a sight from their childhood dreams... a whole funfair had been built on the Call the Midwife set!" they revealed on social media.
"It's all part of our latest festive story, in which the travelling funfair visits Poplar! Several of our cast are involved with this story - and so our poor, utterly serious and professional team have had to suffer free helter skelter rides, rifle shooting games, dodgem cars and carousels - not to mention copious amounts of candy floss and fresh popcorn," they continued. However while we know that the fair is part of the festive plot the images also give away some other plot teasers.
Notable by her absence is Helen George who plays Trixie Aylward. At the end of season thirteen Trixie jetted off to New York to join husband Matthew (Olly Rix). Depsite this she was expected to return to the show but she at least appears to miss the fun of the fair. One hopeful sign is the presence of her brother Geoffrey Franklin (Christopher Harper). Having been a recurring character in the previous season, he has no other ties to Poplar than his sister so his presence could hint at her imminent return. But could Geoffrey be staying while Trixie decides to move on?
It also appears that Joyce Hightower (Renée Bailey) and Rosalind Clifford (Natalie Quarry) have remained in Poplar working in Nonnatus House. While they were offered jobs at the end of season thirteen Rosalind had struggled with the work and Joyce had been revealed to have hidden her true identity in order to escape an abusive marriage. Both seem to have overcome thiese struggles and become a fully fledged part of the family.
Also present at the outing are Nancy Corrigan (Meghan Cusack), her daughter Collette (Francesca Fullilove) and the Turner family which is sure to guarantee a heart warming episode. Express.co.uk has everything we know so far about the upcoming special.
The behind the scenes images show actors Francesca Fullilove (who plays Colette), Megan Cusack (Nancy Corrigan), Renée Bailey (Joyce Hightower), Christopher Harper (Geoffrey Franklin ) and Natalie Quarry (Rosalind Clifford) relaxing between takes with by director Sarah Esdaile. Helen George (Trixie Aylward) and Olly Rix (Matthew Aylward) were nowhere to be seen, which could be an indication of their fate.

Laura Maine, who plays Shelagh Turner and Christopher Harper, Trixie Aylward's (Helen George) brother Geoffrey Franklin in the show, smiled for the camera in the shots. Geoffrey's presence will give hope to fans that Trixie may be returning as she was his only tie to Poplar.

After standing up to her abusive husband in the finale of the last series Joyce Hightower (Renée Bailey) seems to be enjoying life and is looking stylish at the funfair outing as she poses alongside show stalwart Dr Patrick Turner (Stphen McGann)

Francesca Fullilove and Megan Cusack, who play onscreen mother and daughter Collette and Nancy Corrigan, seemed to be having fun on the shoot. It looks as like all is going well for them now that Collette is living with Nancy full time. It would also appear that Nancy's previously woeful financial situaton has improved with both fashionably dressed and enjoying a night out

Rosalind Clifford (Natalie Quarry) struggled with her midwife training during the last season of the show and found it difficult to adapt to treating people at home rather than in hospital. But having passed her exams she has stuck with it and is back for the festive special implying she has fully overcome her home birth issues.
