It's a big year for Kendrick Lamar. Heavily spotlighted in the press this year, thanks to his major beef with Drake which led to a string of anthems, most famously "Not Like Us," the Compton rapper is not finished yet. The NFL has confirmed that Kendrick will be its Super Bowl Halftime Show performer next February in New Orleans. The announcement regarding Super Bowl LIX was made in tandem with Roc Nation and Apple Music.

This marks the second time Kendrick will play on the Superbowl stage. In 2022, he joined Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent and Mary J. Blige as a part of the event's first hip-hop music showcase. In a statement regarding his halftime show announcement, Lamar said, "Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I'll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one."

Founder of Roc Nation,JAY-Z, also made a statement regarding Kendrick's choice, "Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick's work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come." Kendrick has been widely recognized as a talented lyricist, winning a Pulitzer Prize in 2018 for his album DAMN. He is a 17-time Grammy-winning artist who catapulted to fame when he launched his second album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City in 2012. His highly publicized feud with Drake kept him in the headlines for weeks and he took a victory lap when he performed at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles for a Juneteenth concert where he performed "Not Like Us" multiple times.
