Sarah Burton has officially been named Givenchy's new creative director. The LVMH-owned brand has selected the British designer to lead the French house as its eight designer.

Prior to Givenchy, Burton had an illustrious career at Alexander McQueen. Spending the entirety of her career at McQueen, she is now slated to become Givenchy's second female couturier. According to WWD. Burton is expected to be introduced to the ateliers at Avenue George V this week and is expected to present her first collection for Givenchy during Paris Fashion Week in March 2025. Chairman of the Givenchy board Sidney Toledano shared a statement, "Sarah Burton is an exceptional creative talent whose work I have passionately followed for many years. I am very glad that she is joining Givenchy today. Her unique vision and approach to fashion will be invaluable to this iconic maison, known for its audacity and haute couture. I am convinced that her creative leadership will contribute to the future success and international standing of the maison."

Burton's statement following the announcement reads, "It is a great honor to be joining the beautiful house of Givenchy, it is a jewel. I am so excited to be able to write the next chapter in the story of this iconic house and to bring to Givenchy my own vision, sensibility and beliefs." Burton will be designing both women's and men's collections for the house, with the first being the women's collection debuting next March. She followed the footsteps of the late Lee Alexander McQueen and has been hailed as one of the most prolific designers of this generation. She showed her final collection for Alexander McQueen for the Spring 2024 season in October 2023, before parting ways with the London-based Kering house.

A powerful talent, she takes her skills and her vision to Givenchy to continue her remarkable career. At the house of Givenchy, she succeeds Matthew M. Williams. The French house has had a long list of successful talents including John Galliano who was Hubert de Givenchy's immediate successor and later Riccardo Tisci who held the position as creative director for 12 years and was garnered the most successful designer to have led the house.
