BBC Radio 2 star Zoe Ball will be missing from her show for weeks after dropping out of the show on Thursday evening.

Despite her seemingly telling fans that she would be interviewing singer Will Young on Friday morning's show, fans were instead greeted by Gaby Roslin.

On Monday's episode, Zoe, 53, was replaced by former BBC Radio 1 presenter Scott Mills, who told fans: "Good morning! You weren't expecting me were you?

"Welcome to Monday, this is Scott Mills. If you set your alarm to go off every morning at 6.30 and normally Zoe comes on, please do not freak out, you have not overslept until 2pm, I'm here doing the breakfast show, so do not panic, you're not late for work."

function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.setAttribute('src','https://live.primis.tech/live/liveView.php?s=114945&playerApiId=v114945');document.getElementById('ovp-primis').appendChild(el)} window.top.addEventListener('primisPlayerInit',e=>{try{if(e.detail&&e.detail.playerApiId==="v114945"){if(window.document.getElementsByClassName('jwplayer')[0]){e.detail.float('disable')}}}catch(e){}});window.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded',()=>{setTimeout(()=>{if(typeof flagTcfLoaded!=='undefined'&&flagTcfLoaded===!0){loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP flagTcfLoaded',new Date())}else{document.addEventListener("tcfLoaded",()=>{loadOvpScript() ExpressApp.Log('[Load] OVP tcfLoaded',new Date())})}},1500)})

He added: "If you've just put us on this morning, it's Scott Mills in for Zoe for the next few weeks. I'm sending you all my love Zo' as are the team."

A BBC spokesperson has confirmed to Express.co.uk that Zoe will not be back on air until September as she is "taking time off".

Will Young seemingly confirmed that he was expecting to speak to Zoe on Friday, as he put on his Instagram Story: "Jumping in to album release day tomorrow on @bbcradio2. @zoetheball bring your swimmers." She responded: "See you at dawn."

However, he was greeted by Gaby for the interview. Neither Gaby or Scott Mills have revealed the reason for Zoe's absence.

Zoe had only been back on air for a week, as she had taken a lengthy break during the summer holidays, as she cheekily asked fans: "What did I miss?" upon her return.

It has been a tough year for Zoe, as she lost her mother Julia earlier this year after she was diagnosed with cancer, with Zoe sharing the news back in March.

Zoe then took sporadic breaks from the show so she could look after her "incredibly" brave mum, before she sadly lost her just weeks later, leaving the radio presenter "bereft".

Her absence comes just days after her mum's "heavenly" birthday, which marks the first one since her tragic passing, no doubt leaving Zoe feeling emotional.
