JJ Chalmers has become a beloved figure on our TV screens thanks to his growing presenting career. LCpl John-James Chalmers, known affectionately as "JJ", embarked on his television journey after sustaining severe injuries from an IED in Afghanistan.

Recognised for covering the Paralympics as an athletics reporter and presenter, JJ has also become familiar to viewers through his recent role at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, his poignant reporting on Prince Philip's funeral, and segments for The One Show. His emotional performances alongside professional dancer Amy Dowden on Strictly Come Dancing in 2020 won hearts among viewers.

This week sees JJ take on a new challenge as he co-presents with Julia Bradbury on Channel 5 series Warship: Life In The Royal Navy. They will delve into life aboard the UK's largest and most formidable warship and join Royal Marine Commando recruits deep into their gruelling training regime.

Edinburgh is home for JJ, where he lives with his beloved wife Kornelia since they wed in 2015. Surviving a horrific explosion in Afghanistan in 2011, JJ's resilience saw him overcome severe injuries to both legs and arms.

Recently, JJ has opened up about how Kornelia was the driving force behind his recovery. Speaking to the Scotsman, he disclosed: "My wife said, 'Stop talking about it, stop thinking about it and do something about it'."

The ex-Royal Marine added: "Because I can see this is what you want to do and look how passionate you are just thinking about it, think how good it would feel to actually do it."

Later in the heartfelt interview, he shared his profound gratitude towards her with the words: "I stand here today because of her. I was with her through Afghanistan and it was a challenging thing for her to put up with."

He continued by expressing the depth of their bond, "She dragged me through hospital, through recovery, did things for me that no one would ever want to ask a loved one to do for them but she did it and she kept my morale going, and she was the one who said go out there and chase your dreams."

And added, "She put her life on hold essentially so that I could have the opportunities I have and when I get out on the dance floor come Saturday I'm doing it for both of us. That's how it is."

Though the exact origins of their romance remain a mystery, JJ and Kornelia's happy partnership has blossomed into a family with daughter Hayley, aged eight, and five year old son James at its heart.
