BBC Mastermind host Clive Myrie's life away from screens with wife of 25 years

BBC stalwart Clive Myrie, who has been a fixture on our screens since 1996, is known for his roles on some of the world's most popular quiz shows, including Celebrity Mastermind and its showbiz equivalent. He's also a familiar face on daily news programmes, election broadcasts, and annual events such as BBC's The Proms.

The adventurous presenter has also ventured into travel reporting, with his series 'Clive Myrie's Italian Road Trip' seeing him explore Italy's iconic cities and immerse himself in the country's rich culture. The success of the show led to a second series being commissioned, this time set in the Caribbean.

Myrie, who is of Jamaican descent, has travelled extensively for his work, with his most notable assignment being his coverage of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. But what about his life away from the camera?

Is the Mastermind host married?

It turns out that Myrie is quite the romantic. He is married to Catherine Myrie, an upholsterer and furniture restorer, reports the Mirror.

The couple met at a book launch event in London in 1992, where Catherine was working in publishing.

"It was love at first sight for me," Clive confessed about the moment he first laid eyes on his future wife. They were married six years later at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Covent Garden, London.

However, due to his work commitments as the newly appointed BBC's LA correspondent, Clive had to fly back to the US immediately after the wedding. The couple later honeymooned on the beautiful coast of Maracaibo in Venezuela.

Despite his usual discretion, he openly expressed his gratitude for his wife's support, saying she gave him the "courage and space to pursue his dreams."

Catherine and Clive are a study in contrasts, proving that opposites do indeed attract.

In a candid chat with Express.co.uk, he revealed details about his Italian adventure and whether Catherine joined him: "That was part of the plan, possibly to be on camera but possibly not. She's actually quite a reserved, shy person, unlike her husband."

He added: "But the hope was she was going to come over and at least spend a little bit of time with us but we had builders in so we couldn't do it and we have been waiting for these builders for a long time, and my wife is quite particular, so not this time."

Italy is a cherished destination for the couple, who make it a point to vacation there annually and even celebrated Clive's 40th birthday on the picturesque Amalfi Coast.

As for family life, Clive and Catherine have chosen not to have children. Clive opened up about this personal choice in an interview with The Times, dispelling any speculation that his dangerous assignments in warzones influenced their decision.

"No. We were trying for a child, nothing seemed to be happening, and then we ended up moving and realised that it would be quite unfair because we just love travelling so much," he shared.

"We gradually decided it wasn't really right for us. We come from such big families our get-togethers are always huge."
