BBC Antiques Roadshow expert brutally shut down by guest over family heirloom
On a remarkable episode of Antiques Roadshow, expert Theo Burrell didn't hesitate to express her willingness to acquire a beloved family heirloom directly from the hands of an eager guest.
The enthusiastic specialist, an acclaimed auctioneer and connoisseur of decorative arts and invaluable antiques, graced screens in the latest instalment of the revered BBC series.
A stroke of fortune struck Theo during the programme when she came face-to-face with an ornate ceramic bowl, which was said to have once adorned the household of the “great-grandfather's cousin” of the present guest, Sir William Burrell.
Immersed in wonderment, the expert spoke to the guest, who revealed she acquired the illustrious bowl from Sir William Burrell's exclusive collection.
Highlighting her connection to the antique: “My great-grandfather's cousin was Sir William Burrell.

Since her debut on Antiques Roadshow in 2018, Theo has become well-known for her sharp insight and acknowledged Sir William Burrell's penchant for Chinese and Asian ceramics.
Nonetheless, she underscored the necessity of corroborating the bowl's history before considering it for auction proceedings.
However, she speculated over its origins and told the guest: “That does make perfect sense to me that this may have been something from his private collection", and valued it between £1k and £1,500 and playfully offered to buy it.

However, the owner was quick to decline and hit back: “Maybe not. It's staying in the family.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Mark Smith was thrilled to assess a Dundee man's collection of SAS memorabilia, which included his father's medals and badges.
Upon seeing the items, he couldn't contain his excitement: “You said to me this morning 'my dad was a soldier' then you started to get this stuff out and I got so excited because this man was in the SAS, this is fantastic.”
