Emmerdale fans call out 'poor writing' over major blunder in Samson and Josh scene

Emmerdale: Sam tells son Samson to run from the village

Emmerdale viewers were left scratching their heads after spotting a gaffe involving characters Samson Dingle and Josh Cope.

This week on the popular soap, Samson (played by Sam Hall) is set to face his plea hearing for an upcoming court case, with the threat of imprisonment looming after he disclosed being stabbed by Matty (Ash Palmisciano).

Viewers will remember that last month, local bad boy Josh (Osian Morgan) and Samson tried to rob The Hide. The situation turned violent when Josh shoved Samson into Matty, who was armed with a knife, resulting in Samson's stabbing.

Initially, both Josh and Samson falsely accused Matty of the stabbing, leading to Matty's incarceration. Eventually, Samson owned up to the truth, exonerating Matty but still omitted Josh's involvement due to fear.

In Monday's episode (August 5), a confrontation between Samson and Josh led to a fight, with Josh admitting to targeting "freak" Matty because he was "asking to be robbed.", reports the Manchester Evening News.

After the altercation, Samson was seen gearing up to retaliate.

Yet, the plot thickened as police later arrested Samson for assault based on a tip-off and evidence from locals' doorbell cameras. This twist prompted fans to call out what they perceived as a significant oversight.

Fans flocked to social media to highlight a glaring oversight in Emmerdale's plot, suggesting that if the police had examined Eric's doorbell footage, Josh's confession would have been unmistakable.

On a Facebook Emmerdale fan group, one confused viewer remarked: "Am sorry if I'm being stupid but if the police have checked Eric's ring doorbell wouldn't they have heard Josh confession?".

Another chimed in on the social media platform and wrote: "Apology accepted. Another weak piece of writing imo." A third contributed: "That's exactly what I thought," while another declared: "Was thinking the same!"

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
