Trent Alexander-Arnold's future at Liverpool has been the subject of intense speculation, with his contract winding down and Real Madrid reportedly circling.
The England international has just six months left on his Anfield deal, sparking rumours he could negotiate a free transfer when the January window opens.
Amid reports in Spain of an 'almost complete' deal with the European heavyweights, Alexander-Arnold seemed to address the gossip during Liverpool's emphatic 5-0 victory over West Ham. Scoring his first goal of the season via a deflection off Max Kilman, the full-back celebrated by making a telling gesture as he put his hand up to his ear as though it was talking.
This act certainly got fans and social media talking interpretations. One fan pondered: "Trent Alexander-Arnold with an interesting celebration after scoring that goal. Wonder what he's trying to imply," while another said: "Trent Alexander-Arnold sending a message with his celebration."
Confusion reigned for another supporter who questioned: "Honestly, I'm confused about this Trent Alexander-Arnold celebration. Is he shushing Spanish rumors or Liverpool fans who think he won't be a Liverpool legend if he signs for Real Madrid??"
Despite the ongoing speculation about his future, Alexander-Arnold seems uninterested in engaging with the rumours. Liverpool manager Arne Slot echoed this sentiment when he addressed the contract situations of Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah.
He said: "No, I don't think it's negative at all. He's playing really well, scored a great goal and the way he celebrated his goal probably tells you enough. I don't think I have to say much more about it.
"I'm really happy with Trent, just as happy as I am with Mo and with Virgil. So for me, there's no difference. For the outside world, maybe there's a bit more things happening around Trent in the media than with the other two but I'm happy with all three of them at the moment."
Alexander-Arnold was among the scorers in Liverpool's 5-0 rout of West Ham, with Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Salah and Diogo Jota also on target. The Reds will next face arch-rivals Manchester United.
