Wolves are on the hunt for their fourth manager in just over two years after sacking Gary O'Neil.

The 41-year-old was dismissed this morning (Sunday) after a last-minute defeat at home to Ipswich Town, with the club's fourth consecutive loss leaving them four points from safety.

Post-match drama for the second game in a row also reflected badly on O'Neil, who placed blame on the players after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer watched on from the stands.

Here, Express Sport takes you through four strong candidates to propel Wolves out of the drop zone...

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Wolves fans were told not to read too deeply into Solskjaer's appearance at Molineux on Sunday, with some pointing out the ties between the Norwegian and Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna due to their time together at Manchester United. Solskjaer's son, meanwhile, is believed to be a Tractor Boys supporter.

But former United boss Solskjaer, who has been out of work since leaving Old Trafford in 2021, is nonetheless among the bookies' favourites to take over.

The 51-year-old also has spells at Molde and Cardiff City on his managerial CV.

Leicester City v Chelsea - Premier League

Steve Cooper

Cooper was sacked by Leicester City last month after only five months at the helm. And many felt he was hard done by, given that the newly-promoted Foxes were outside the relegation zone at the time of his dismissal.

Now, the Pontypridd-born boss is among the candidates for the Wolves job. He built a stellar reputation managing England's youth teams, impressed at Swansea City and then took Nottingham Forest up to the Premier League. But his stock has taken a hit since his Leicester appointment.

Graham Potter

The former Swansea, Brighton and Chelsea boss would be a coup for Wolves given the respect he commanded when Stamford Bridge chiefs appointed him in 2022.

Potter has been waiting patiently for the perfect opportunity to arise since he was given his marching orders by the Blues. Whether the Wolves job would entice the 49-year-old, who is clearly biding his time, is another matter.

Carlos Corberan

The Spaniard has made West Bromwich Albion hard to beat this season, though with 11 draws in 20 matches, they are only seventh in the Championship.

It remains to be seen whether senior figures at Wolves would be willing to take a chance on Corberan, or if a head coach with more top-flight experience is sought.
