Chelsea's star player Cole Palmer has sparked fresh speculation over his fitness ahead of the crucial London derby against Arsenal.

The 22-year-old was on the receiving end of a nasty tackle from Lisandro Martinez in last weekend's draw against Manchester United, leading to doubts about his availability for today's big match.

Despite these concerns, Palmer was present at Chelsea's 8-0 victory over FC Noah midweek, although head coach Enzo Maresca remained tight-lipped when asked about the England midfielder's status on Friday.

However, Palmer has given the biggest hint yet that he may feature against the Gunners, sharing a photo of his leg in a 'game ready' hot and cold compression wrap on Instagram on Friday evening.

Given his impressive form this season - seven goals and five assists in 10 Premier League matches - Chelsea would undoubtedly welcome his presence in Sunday's crucial clash.

Palmer has also been named in Lee Carsley's final England squad for the Nations League fixtures against Greece and the Republic of Ireland during the international break.

Fans were encouraged by Palmer's appearance midweek, but Maresca sought to manage expectations after he was seen dining at Stamford Bridge. The Blues' head coach did not completely rule him out, however.

The Italian coach said: "He's better. He's getting better. If he can walk and have dinner, that doesn't mean he is completely fit. He is getting better and we still have two days to prepare for the game. Hopefully, we can have him for a session, at least on Saturday, and then we take a decision."

As Chelsea prepares to take on Arsenal, they currenrtly perch ahead of their London rivals in the league standings by goal difference.
