Ruud van Nistelrooy has admitted he would like to be Manchester United boss in the future as he prepares to hand over his duties to Ruben Amorim.
Amorim is due to officially take charge on November 11 after signing off from Sporting, having agreed to succeed Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. While his arrival is fast approaching, Van Nistelrooy is yet to speak with the Portuguese boss.
The Red Devils' interim boss takes charge of his fourth and final game against Leicester City at Old Trafford on Sunday hoping to preserve his unbeaten record, which has seen him preside over wins against the Foxes and PAOK, in addition to a 1-1 draw with Chelsea.
When asked if he would like to be United manager in the future, Van Nistelrooy said: "I thought this through well when I came here as assistant manager.
"I knew coming to Manchester United was a special occasion and I felt I wanted to be part of this journey in the assistant role. I have clear ambitions to manage, I signed a two-year deal as an assistant, and I'm still in the same frame of mind."
It remains to be seen whether Van Nistelrooy will revert to his original job title as first-team assistant or leave the club altogether, as Amorim is set to bring in his own backroom team.

But the Dutchman is keen to find out either way as he revealed his plans to hold a conversation with the incoming manager and what his next job could be.
Van Nistelrooy was pressed on the matter again and added: "I think the appetite to build further within this club is stronger than the other bit [being his own man]. For this moment, as I said, I made a deliberate decision to step in this role for two seasons and take it from there. These four games haven't changed that."
The 48-year-old is yet to speak with Amorim as he hasn't officially begun working as United coach. But Van Nistelrooy is planning to sit down with the successor and admitted he hasn't thought of what advice to give to him ahead of his Premier League bow.
"It's a good question actually. I've been in for three months this short spell and from there on it would be good to wrap it all up and have that conversation. It's a good question so I will start to think about it."
United sit 13th in the Premier League following their worst start to a domestic season, although many would still expect them to beat recently-promoted Leicester. The Red Devils put five past their opponents in Van Nistelrooy's first game in charge in the Carabao Cup.
The Dutchman will be hoping Amad Diallo is fit to play after his brace against PAOK on Thursday, but confirmed Kobbie Mainoo will not be back in time for the game.
"Amad was assessed, still working on him to get him ready for Sunday, so hopefully it will work and Kobbie is also progressing with his injury. He isn't yet with the team, though. He needs more time."
