Jamie Carragher raised eyebrows on social media by questioning whether Howard Webb stepped in to send off William Saliba during Arsenal's clash with Bournemouth.

The French centre-back was initially booked by referee Rob Jones for pulling down Evanilson in the first half of Saturday evening's Premier League game at The Vitality Stadium. However, the decision escalated to a red card following VAR's intervention.

Saliba's sending off means he'll be absent for the upcoming match against title rivals Liverpool. And after the incident, ex-Reds star Carragher speculated whether Webb was involved in the decision to send him off after cameras caught the PGMOL chief on his phone in the stands.

Carragher queried in a now deleted tweet: "Was Howard Webb involved in the decision making of the red card for Saliba? ? ".

Arsenal supporters expressed their displeasure towards Webb and the PGMOL, with chants of "F*** Howard Webb" echoing around the stadium following the red card. Despite being a man down, Arsenal managed to keep the score level at half-time.

However, their evening turned into a nightmare as they fell to a 2-0 defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, in their first loss of the season.

This latest setback adds to Mikel Arteta's growing list of concerns. With team captain Martin Odegaard sidelined due to injury, Arteta hinted on Friday that the Norwegian might recover in time for the Liverpool fixture.
