Manchester United's disappointing start to the campaign continued as Erik ten Hag's side suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at home to rivals Liverpool.

The Red Devils were never in the contest, with Liverpool dominating from the off and racing to a two-goal lead ahead of half-time.

Luis Diaz twice found the back of the net for the visitors, before Mohamed Salah did what he always does at Old Trafford and got his name on the scoresheet.

It was sobering afternoon for Ten Hag, who was already under pressure following last week's defeat on the south coast against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Express Sport rates the United players after a dismal day at Old Trafford.

Man Utd player ratings vs Liverpool

Andre Onana - 4/10

Never looked like making a save for any of the Liverpool goals. Left far too much space open at the back post for Diaz's second and got done at his near post for Salah's second-half strike. The less said about his distribution the better.

Diogo Dalot - 6/10

Held his own during a tough afternoon. One of United's better performers.

Lisandro Martinez - 6/10

Looked solid in the opening 20 minutes and could strike up a decent partnership with Matthijs de Ligt down the line. Came close with a speculative overhead kick late on.

Matthijs de Ligt - 4/10

Started the game well but looked lost at sea when the goals started to flow. Lost his head with a crunching tackle midway through the second half that earned him a yellow card. Hooked 20 minutes from the end.

Noussair Mazraoui - 6/10

Ought to have positioned himself better for the Liverpool opener, but otherwise looked solid. Bounced back from a knock early in the second half.

Casemiro - 1/10

United would've been better playing with 10 men for the first half. At fault for the opening two Liverpool goals. Deservedly subbed at the break and will likely struggle for minutes following the signing of Manuel Ugarte.

Kobbie Mainoo - 5/10

Not his brightest performance. Had a tough task stitching a dysfunctional United midfield together, but was caught out for the Salah goal. He'll bounce back stronger, no doubt.

Bruno Fernandes - 4/10

Uninfluential and spent most of the game moping about getting frustrated with his team-mates.

Marcus Rashford - 6/10

Was perhaps lucky to have stayed on the pitch when Ten Hag made his first round of subs. Picked his performance up thereafter and created a couple of chances which went amiss.

Alejandro Garnacho - 5/10

Brought the game to life last weekend when he came off the bench, but failed to have a similar impact from the off this time around.

Joshua Zirkzee - 4/10

Looked positive at times, but wasted too many chances when they came his way. Has to be more clinical if he's to lead the line for United going forward.

Substitutes:

Toby Collyer - 6/10

Dealt an impossible hand coming off the bench at half-time for Casemiro and understandably struggled to match the pace of the game.

Amad Diallo - 7/10

Comfortably the best United player and he only played 20 minutes. Added something different to the United attack. Should've started the game.

Harry Maguire - 6/10

Solidified United's backline from the onslaught of Liverpool attacks. Provided a threat from set-pieces.

Christian Eriksen - N/A
