Jermaine Jenas' sacking from the BBC has led to talkSPORT issuing a statement after the former professional footballer went live on air just minutes after the news was confirmed.

It was revealed on Thursday afternoon that Jenas had been axed by the BBC following complaints of 'inappropriate behaviour'.

The BBC confirmed the news with a spokesperson saying: "We can confirm that he is no longer part of our presenting line up."

But talkSPORT listeners to their usual Drive show between 4pm and 7pm were left scratching their heads when the former-Tottenham Hotspur star went live with fellow ex-pro Jermaine Pennant.

The topic of conversation focused on the latest footballing matters, not Jenas' sacking from the BBC.

But keen to clear up why Jenas went ahead with presenting the show, a spokesperson from talkSPORT told The Sun: "We were made aware of a breaking story involving Jermaine as he went on air."

However, a decision was made in conjunction with Jenas that "he should continue to present the show".

The statement continued: "There are no plans for Jermaine to broadcast as a presenter on talkSPORT in the immediate future."

Jenas was quizzed about the sacking later in the evening, with the 41-year-old saying live on talkSPORT: "I can't really talk about it. As you can probably see, I'm not happy about it. But currently as it stands I'm going to have to let the lawyers deal with it.

"There's two sides... that's all I can say now... I'm not happy about this situation. I'm going to be speaking to my lawyers about it, is all I can say right now."

Jenas last presented The One Show in mid-July, while his latest appearance on Match of the Day came in May.

But Jenas did appear as a co-commentator for TNT Sports during last weekend's Premier League opener between Ipswich Town and Liverpool.

As per Sky News, TNT Sports have failed to comment on the allegations, but it is claimed Jenas isn't scheduled to appear on the channel for a number of weeks.

It's also claimed TNT Sports were unaware about the 'status of Jenas's employment with the BBC'.

Jenas retired from professional football in 2016, before making the leap over to punditry and commentary.

The Nottingham-born presenter has worked across some of the biggest football events for the BBC, including the FA Cup, Euros and the World Cup.
