Manchester United are said to be willing to offer Sander Berge a contract worth £100,000 per week if they can thrash out a deal to land the midfielder from Burnley. The Red Devils are chasing Berge as they line up a replacement for Casemiro, who appears to be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia this summer.
United are keen to offload Casemiro and get his huge salary off their books following his downturn in form last season.
And Berge could be the man to take the Brazilian’s place in the centre of the pitch after making a name for himself at Sheffield United and the Clarets.

According to The Sun, United are understood to have already made contact with Berge’s representatives, with the player excited about the prospect of playing at Old Trafford.
But Burnley, who were relegated to the Championship after winning just five Premier League matches last season, will demand £30million to sanction the move, with United only willing to stump up £20m in exchange for his signature.
And if the 13-time Premier League champions do offer the Norway international the bumper pay deal, it would see him banking five times the amount of current midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.

Mainoo established himself as a first-team regular last season and is now regarded as one of United’s best players following a string of impressive displays. The 19-year-old scored during his team’s FA Cup final victory over Manchester City in May and was part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad at Euro 2024.
He started all of England’s knock-out matches as the Three Lions reached the final before losing to Spain.
Mainoo is expected to sign a new contract in the north west as United attempt to cling onto him and build their team around him. But, according to Spotrac, the teenage sensation only earns £20,000 per week with his current deal. And he would hardly be jumping for joy at seeing Berge earning so much more than him.

Berge played at Old Trafford in April when Burnley held United to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League.
And after the contest, Casemiro came in for fierce criticism from Ian Wright, who told Match of the Day: “This is just how easy you can get past the [United] midfield.
“This is Sander Berge with Casemiro. Now he’s just got to stop and not let him come through, but he (Berge) has just walked past him.”
