Seven years after its opening, the MGM Theater has debuted its first-ever residency show, Macau 2049.
Created in collaboration with renowned filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the show premiered yesterday with an opening ceremony attended by Pansy Ho, chairperson of MGM China Holdings Limited.
Macau 2049 is an 80-minute performance featuring eight chapters that celebrate Chinese intangible cultural heritage through diverse cultural expressions. This innovative show utilizes advanced technologies from 20 countries to reinterpret traditional arts such as Peking Opera and Lion Dance, while also being presented in eight international languages to reach a global audience.
Zhang Yimou emphasized the show’s goal of harmonizing ancient civilization with modern advancements, celebrating cultural diversity. Alongside the show, MGM also unveiled a kinetic art installation, “The Dancing Lion: Rise of Good Fortune,” which further merges technology and cultural artistry.
