TOS: Alex halts show to make Elton John announcement
TV presenter Alex Jones made a special interruption during Friday's The One Show to bring news about Elton John to eager viewers.
After just minutes into the show, Alex, who was co-presenting with Clara Amfo, announced: "So many people have been getting in touch, haven't they? Including Elton John, who sent us a message thanking fans after his greatest hits album, Diamond, topped the charts a few hours ago."
The spotlight then switched to a video link of Elton at his residence, where he expressed his delight.
From his screen, Elton said: "Hi Alex, hi Clara and everyone on The One Show. I am so thrilled and excited that Diamonds has finally got to number one in the UK chart.
"It has been eight years, so it has been an amazing start to the year, and I could not be happier," reports Wales Online.

"Thank you, everyone," he signed off his heartfelt message.
Clara couldnt hide her joy as she responded, "Aw, congratulations," before adding affectionately, "Our forever fave, Elton John."
However, this wasn't the only scoop Alex had prepared for the programme's audience, as she invited Lenny Rush onto the sofa to discuss the upcoming BAFTA awards.
In what was a big reveal for the viewers, Lenny disclosed which celebrity would receive the highest accolade at this year's BAFTAs, saying: "It is the greatest honour BAFTA can give to the greatest people."
Upon being prompted to divulge the recipient, Lenny unveiled: "This year, the winner is Warwick Davis."
Following the revelation, the esteemed Harry Potter actor himself made an entrance into the studio, ready to share his feelings about receiving such a prestigious BAFTA fellowship.
When questioned by Clara if the award was one of the "biggest" moments of his career, he responded: "Absolutely. I have done a lot of amazing things in my career, but this has got to top them all, it is amazing. I am really honoured."
Prior to the show's broadcast, The One Show's social media platforms teased an "exclusive announcement" for the programme.
On X, they posted: "Get ready for an exclusive announcement on tonight's #TheOneShow!
"We'll be revealing the recipient of the prestigious @BAFTA Fellowship award for this year - and they'll be joining us on the sofa."
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
