Richard Armitage is joining forces with renowned mystery writer Harlan Coben for another gripping Netflix series, Missing You.
In this latest collaboration, Richard takes on the role of DCI Ellis Stagger, the superior officer to Detective Kat Donovan, played by Rosalind Eleazar.
This marks Richard's fourth Harlan Coben project, following successful stints in Stay Close, The Stranger, and more recently, Fool Me Once, which he starred in alongside Michelle Keegan.
Notably, Fool Me Once became Netflix's most-watched show of 2024, racking up over 100 million global views last year.
In a discussion with Reach and other publications, Richard shared his thoughts on the distinctiveness of his new role in Missing You, diverging from previous characters such as Joe Burkett.
Commenting on his experience working with Michelle in last year's hit Netflix thriller, Richard noted: "I mean, I don't make an effort to disregard what went before, because you bring little, tiny capillaries with you, which is the feel of the show."
He elaborated on his approach, saying: "You sort of just play it for the moment and you trust the creative team above you to you know, you don't question.
"You just play the suspense for the twist and the thrills," Richard continued, highlighting the unique aspects of his new role in Missing You. "But I've never played a police detective before. It was nice to take on a character that had that authority."
Intriguingly, he concluded by touching on one of Harlan Coben's thematic signatures, adding: "But also one of the signatures that Harlan loves - the itch that he really enjoys scratching - is about secrecy.
"So this character was somebody that had all of the answers and he knows, you know, everything - and it's whether he chooses to excavate the ground or leave it buried. And with 'that project', it was rather a stay buried. He didn't want to move the Earth at all."
Meanwhile, the synopsis for Missing You describes it as "a limited drama series about Detective Kat Donovan (Rosalind Eleazar), whose life is rocked when her fiance Josh (Ashley Walters), who disappeared eleven years ago, suddenly resurfaces in strange circumstances."
The description continues: "While Kat investigates the case of a missing person, Josh's reappearance forces her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father's (Sir Lenny Henry) murder and uncover long-buried secrets from her past.
"Missing You sends Kat on a personal journey as she turns her policing brilliance inwards, unravelling her own life and those around her.
"Despite the big twists and shocking turns, Kat's journey is one of emotional grounding as the viewer follows a fearless and intelligent Detective as she is forced to confront one of the most traumatic and vulnerable moments in her life."
Missing You is available to stream on Netflix from January 1.
