BBC's Homes Under The Hammer presenter Martin Robertshas made an emotional New Year's plea as he grapples with the challenging renovation of his Welsh pub and hotel.

In a touching message shared on X, Roberts shared the personal toll the project has taken on him, amid hopes for a brighter 2025.

In his candid post, Roberts extended quirky well-wishes to his followers, stating: "May Peace break into your house and thieves steal your debts. May love stick to your face like Vaseline, and laughter assault your lips. May the problems you had forget your address, and may 2025 be the best year of your life. Meanwhile…at the Hendrewen…”

The property expert, who took on the ambitious project in 2022 after the establishment suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic, also released a poignant video tour of the Hendrewen, exposing the extensive work still needed.

The video showcases the stark contrast between his vision and the current reality of the dilapidated pub.

Reflecting on the setbacks, Roberts shared: “Time for a little bit of reflection. It’s 20 December 2024, another Christmas when the pub should have been opened. I think you could say I was a little ambitious with my time scales and budgets. I’m suffering. I’m a victim of my own…whatever.

The place is still a work in progress. It would be easy to say it’s got a long way to go. But hopefully, things will accelerate in the new year and I’ve got a lot of work going on outside and hopefully the inside will start coming together in the restaurant."

Despite the challenges, Roberts finds solace in the small victories: "The little things that are really keeping me going, this old beam and this we made this fireplace which I think it’s gonna be really nice.

"You can imagine sofas in front of here and people sipping lattes and sitting with the kids and their dogs and it’s these things that keep me going two and a half years on."

Roberts added that he remains hopeful that 2025 will be the year The Hendrewen finally opens its doors once again, transforming back into the beloved community hub it once was. “In 2025 the year it opens? It has to be, it will be. I hope you’ll be here. Happy new year, seriously, lots of love,” he added.

On the worst days Martin has previously admitted he has been worried and emotional.

Martin previously told WalesOnline: "Stuff seems to take forever and at times it's just felt like things aren’t moving anywhere as fast as I would like. There are times when I’ve been almost in tears going 'will this ever come to fruition?' because things keep taking so long and I keep promising that this will be open and I feel like I’m letting people down.”
