Fans of the popular BBC show The Traitors have long speculated about a potential game-solving plot hole, suggesting that the last two or three players to arrive for breakfast are always Faithful—a clue supposedly overlooked by contestants.
However, Ivan Brett, a contestant from the show's first season, has recently come forward to debunk this theory, arguing that the perceived pattern does not hold up under scrutiny.
Brett explained: "Quite often I'm told how because the final two or three players arriving for breakfast on #TheTraitors are always Faithful, this is a game-solving clue that the other players never use. Well, here's why the Late Faithful (Laithful) strategy is categorically wrong."
He further elaborated on the inconsistency of this theory by referencing specific episodes: "While it's true to say that in Season 1 this tended to happen, it didn't always. In episode 4, Amanda was last to turn up to breakfast. Nobody was murdered that night, but they still used it as an opportunity to break the Laithful pattern.”

The author and games designer also pointed out that the supposed pattern of no late Traitors would only be noticeable if viewers already knew who the traitors were.
"Faithfuls are sus of everyone and only discover traitors once banished. We all tracked votes, friendships, but breakfast arrivals were not being counted. Ok, you say, but when watching the show it's obvious. So why didn't Season 2's contestants use the same info? Well, I hope they didn't..." he said, adding that in Season 2, there were multiple instances where a traitor was among the last to arrive.
In his detailed breakdown, Brett cited several instances from the second season to support his argument. "In episode 3, when Kyra was murdered, Traitor Ash was amongst the last three to arrive. In episode 5, when Meg was murdered, Traitor Paul was last to arrive. Four times a Traitor was late to breakfast. Another breakfast, two traitors didn't arrive at all (Dungeon).”

He finally added: “Four out of nine relevant breakfasts is actually proportionally higher than the proportion of Traitors to Faithfuls.
So if you'd tried the Laithful strategy in Season 2, we can all agree you'd have been barking up the wrong croissant. I think it's fair to say, this myth should be busted," Brett remarked.
Meanwhile, The Traitors continues to captivate viewers, having smashed its record rating for an opening episode last night, drawing in more than 5 million viewers and peaking at 5.4 million—close to its best ever performance which was the finale of last season.
The show was the most-watched show of January 1st in the UK, surpassing even the news and a Gavin & Stacey tribute, with numbers expected to rise as more viewers catch up.
The BBC has capitalized on the show's success, placing significant marketing behind it and securing a lucrative New Year’s Day slot, with episodes set to air each week Wednesday to Friday until the end of this month.
