GMB presenters discuss Gavin and Stacey finale
Two major streaming services are reportedly going head-to-head in a bidding war with the BBC for a potential Gavin and Stacey spin-off show.
Five years on from the previous special’s cliffhanger, the feature-length Gavin & Stacey final saw 12.32 million people tune in on Christmas Day to find out what happened after Nessa's proposal to Smithy.
The beloved comedy, which first hit screens in 2007, broke its own record set in 2019 when 11 million people watched the penultimate episode.
Despite writers James Corden and Ruth Jones insisting that the show has now ended, Disney+ and Apple TV+ are reportedly said to be approaching the pair about a future version.
According to The Sun, an inside source said: "They see the viewing figures for the Christmas episode and realise how Gavin & Stacey has massive longevity.

"More and more of the streamers, who are often associated more with the US, want to be seen as having an increasing amount of distinctly 'British' content.
"Gavin and Stacey, and any spin-off, fits that bill perfectly, so they'll be willing to shell out seven or eight-figure sums to secure a deal."
Express Online contacted the BBC for a further statement, where they declined to comment.
It has also been reported that Netflix has pulled out of the bidding war, stating that it was "never been in any discussions about Gavin & Stacey."

On Christmas Day when the episode aired, Ruth Jones and James posted a selfie of eachother on Instagram as they enjoyed watching the show together.
James penned: "We had to be together to watch tonight. We really hope you enjoy the finale of Gavin and Stacey.
"It has been the greatest privilege making this show over the past 17 years. We’ll see you on BBC One at 9pm. The years go by so fast, let’s hope the next beats the last. Happy Christmas. x."
