The Christmas special will see Don Gilet as DI Mervin Wilson as he faces his first Saint Marie mystery as three Santas are all seemingly shot with the same gun at the same time.

Joining him will be Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, Shantol Jackson as DS Naomi Thomas, Ginny Holder as Officer Darlene Curtis, Danny John-Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers, and Élizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey plus Ram John Holder as Nelson Myers.

Among the line-up is also comedian Marcus Brigstocke, who steps into the shoes of tourist Stuart Fullwell.

Speaking to BBC Morning Live about the role, chatting with hosts Jacqui Joseph and Gordon Smart, the actor said: "Obviously I was thrilled because I know that Death in Paradise have been looking for the new detective.

"So when the call came I instantly called Rachel my wife and said I'm pretty sure we are going to be moving to Guadalupe for six months out of the year."

He added: "It was quickly made clear to me that I was going to be killed off but I was still over the moon. It's a beautiful, brilliant, funny and engaging show. It's so fun to do."
