Fans of a BBC quiz show demanded that a team be "sent home" after missing out on a brilliant name opportunity. Only Connect was back this evening with Victoria Coren Mitchell at the helm as she welcomed two teams to battle it out in the game where knowledge only gets you so far.

The episode showed another match in the knockout stage as the Uisge Beathas took on the Crunchers - who met earlier in the series.

Both teams had to use patience, lateral thinking and sheer inspiration to make connections between four things that may appear at first not to be linked,

But fans at home pointed out a missed opportunity with one of the team names. It comes as the Crunchers were made up of players Ian Wang, Dennis Wang and Chris Nash.

Playing on the famous British dish 'bangers and mash', viewers took to social media to suggest that the team should adjust their name to 'Wangers and Nash'.

One saddened fan took to Twitter/X, to say: "Gutted that this team weren’t called Wangers n’ Nash. @VictoriaCoren have a word…. #onlyconnect."

Another added: "Every time the Crunchers appear on #OnlyConnect my husband has to express his disappointment that they didn’t name their team ‘Wangers and Nash’. I’ve now heard this lament so much that it’s time for another Victoria to suffer it too @VictoriaCoren."

Meanwhile, a third demanded: "#onlyconnect Crunchers?? They should be sent home for not calling themselves 'Wangers and Nash'."

Someone else penned: "Huge missed opportunity from The Crunchers not to have called themselves 'Wangers & Nash'. #OnlyConnect."

Despite the calls for the team to go home from fans, they were to remain in the competition for a bit longer. Victoria gleefully announced the game's final scores as she said: "I can tell you that the winners, and still in the competition with 29 points, are the Crunchers. Very well done."

The opposing team finished with a score of 19, as the host said: "I'm sorry to say goodbye to you but I'm confident that you will drown your sorrows with panache in the bar this evening." Adding a random tidbit about herself, Victoria said: "Panache is actually my favourite type of whiskey."
