All Creatures Great and Small has hinted at a challenging Christmas for Mrs Hall as the Channel 5 show broadcasts a special episode to celebrate the holiday season.

At Skeldale house, they are bustling with preparations for Christmas and young Jimmy's first birthday. However, the usual festive indulgences are missing - with Mrs Hall determined to create the perfect Christmas despite the ongoing circumstances.

The situation worsens when she receives some distressing news. Mrs Hall is hit with an alarming news update that shakes her world - with the family uniting to support her. In another part of town, a young boy brings in an abandoned fox cub to the surgery, with Mrs Hall feeling a strong bond with the creature.

Meanwhile, Tristan is assigned a significant task involving pigeons by the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, but he is far from thrilled with his duty. Siegfried sends him to meet Enoch Sykes, a pigeon enthusiast, but his efforts to gain Enoch's trust don't quite work out - leading to what kind of mayhem?

Helen finds herself mediating family disputes as she and James get ready for Jimmy's birthday tea, while Siegfried faces a major - and tough - decision on how to treat the injured fox.

Anna Madeley, who brings Mrs Hall to life on screens, delved into the character's harrowing Christmas ordeal. She explained: "It's a horrendous time for Mrs. Hall. It's every mother's worst nightmare.

"She receives the news that Edward's ship has been struck, and this happens right before Christmas, when Jimmy's birthday is also coming up - a time when you desperately want good news and for everyone to be together."

Discussing how her character withstands such strain, she revealed: "I think Mrs. Hall copes by staying busy and focusing on what little she does know. Initially, she tells herself, 'Let's deal with the facts we have.' But as the story progresses, it becomes harder and harder to hold on to that strategy.

"She even seeks out information on her own, meeting a young lad named Paddy, who had been with Edward on the ship. It's a difficult journey for her, and even though she tries to stay strong, that uncertainty starts to take its toll."

All Creatures Great and Small 2024 Christmas special will air on Monday December, 23 at 9pm
