Marcus Brigstocke on character's murder in Death in Paradise

Death in Paradise viewers are set to see a shock death as one of the show's stars has unveiled their character's grim fate, revealing they're poised for a dramatic 'killing off'.

The BBC's beloved series is poised for a spectacular comeback this Yuletide with a glittering Christmas special. Among the line-up is comedian Marcus Brigstocke, who steps into the shoes of tourist Stuart Fullwell.

A twist typical of Death In Paradise awaits viewers right from the start, with Stuart becoming the unfortunate casualty of a gruesome murder.

After belting out Christmas tunes in a Santa outfit at karaoke, the character meets a tragic end when he's discovered lifeless on the sands by youngster Ollie, prompting the Saint Marie police squad to spring into action.

With the vacancy left by Neville Parker's exit, the team faces a major test with no Detective Inspector to lead the probing of such a high-profile incident, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Marcus opened up about his excitement over the role during his slot on BBC Morning Live, chatting with hosts Jacqui Joseph and Gordon Smart on Thursday. He shared his initial elation, stating: "Obviously I was thrilled because I know that Death in Paradise have been looking for the new detective so when the call came I instantly called Rachel my wife and said I'm pretty sure we are going to be moving to Guadalupe for six months out of the year."

But dreams of becoming a permanent fixture on the tropical crime scene were dashed as the plot took an unforeseen turn for the actor.

Marcus spilled the beans, chuckling: "It was quickly made clear to me that I was going to be killed off but I was still over the moon. It's a beautiful, brilliant, funny and engaging show. It's so fun to do."

The conversation took a humorous turn when Jacqui quipped: "Hold on you said you get the chop, I hear you were singing so was it because of that."

Laughter erupted as Marcus retorted: "Well I was interested in the clip you showed but they didn't show any of my karaoke and I don't know for sure but my guess is that it will be released as a Christmas single."

With a twinkle in his eye, he continued: "I doubt they would have killed me because of my singing because I think it's going to be a big hit and I see a big shift in my career."
