Emmerdale: Cain Dingle arrives home drunk as he battles demons
Emmerdale has dropped hints of a possible breakup between Moira Dingle (played by Natalie J Robb) and her spouse Cain (Jeff Hordley). Viewers have expressed concern, noting that they've never seen Cain 'that drunk' before.
Moira's recent brain tumour surgery and Cain's affair with Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) have left him wrestling with remorse.
He missed Moira's crucial hospital appointment as she awaited her results, opting instead to spend the night in jail.
Upon his release on Wednesday (December 11), he made a beeline for The Woolpack for a whisky-fuelled session.
After a heated exchange with Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) over his escalating drinking habits, Cain exited the pub and retreated to the allotment.
Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) discovered him there, downing beer on a chilly bench.
Liam guided a tipsy Cain back to his home to sober up, before dropping him off at Butler's.
Moira was furious with Cain's intoxicated state as he tearfully tried to apologise, reports Leicestershire Live.
As he braced himself to admit his infidelity with Ruby, Moira revealed that she had been withholding information about her hospital visit.
She disclosed that she had an atypical meningioma, and while it wasn't cancerous, she would need radiotherapy to prevent the tumour from returning.
Moira was left reeling as Cain failed to provide the support she needed, deciding to face her treatment alone, which led Emmerdale fans to speculate on social media about Cain's potential alcohol problems.
One viewer took to Twitter, posting: "Anyone ever seen Cain THIS hammered before? #Emmerdale."
The frustration among fans was palpable, with one tweeting: "Oh grow up Cain! #Emmerdale", and another pondering: "Wonder who's looking after the garage when Cain's bladdered #Emmerdale."
Speculation about the root of Cain's issues was rife, with a comment from one user: "We didn't even see him start. I'm wondering if its something else. Medication #Emmerdale."
Another fan was puzzled by Cain's actions, asking: "Cain spends a night off the ale in prison. Comes straight out and gets smashed. Why? How? #Emmerdale," highlighting his immediate return to drinking post-prison.
Emmerdale airs weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
