The Repair Shop: Narrator Bill Paterson appears on show

The Repair Shop made for emotional viewing once again as a guest shared the sad story behind her toy puppet, Billy Willy.

In the latest episode, Favourite Fixes, fans got a chance to revisit stories from guests who had previously appeared on the show. The final visitor in the famous barn was Emma, who brought in a toy with a more personal connection.

Emma's 1970s puppet, Billy Willy, was the last gift she received from her father before he died when she was just a young girl. From ages eight to 11, Billy Willy was Emma's constant companion.

Unfortunately, the puppet had a crack on its face and was missing a leg after it was accidentally pulled off.

But not long after seeing the puppet on their screens, fans couldn't wait to share their views on the toy online, and some viewers were petrified by the puppet's looks.

One viewer said: "I hate clowns. I hate puppets. So I can't look but I'm happy it's sentimental to someone."

Another shared: "Just screamed out loud because a bl**dy great big clown has come on the telly."

A third joked: "The evil clown will rock in its chair at midnight and then come walking to your bed to stir you from your slumber..."

While a fourth viewer observed: "We all wanted to be ventriloquists in the 70’s. Didn’t we? I did. I practised for hours with my Pelham puppet but never mastered the B sound. Still annoys me."

Following the restoration, Emma was finally reunited with Billy Willy. Gobsmacked with how well the toy looked, Emma broke down in tears.

She said through her tears, "he looks like when he was new," as she thanked the experts for the fantastic restoration.

She later said: "I'm so impressed with what they've done with Billy Willy. I think it would mean so much to my dad. Maybe when Dad brought this for me, he knew that I needed something that was going to make me smile, and it definitely makes me smile and cry!"

Fans also shared their thoughts on the new and improved item, with one viewer writing: "I love Billy Willy."

The Repair Shop is available to watch on BBC IPlayer.
