The Chase: Matt takes on the final chase

Fans of ITV's The Chase have raged the show is "embarrassing" and declared the latest edition (December 3) featured "the worst final ever" after contestant Matt, the last man standing in the final chase, scored a mere six points. This allowed the chaser Mark "The Beast" Labbett to easily trounce him.

Taking to X @Pantastic1761 seethed: "@ITVChase you should be embarrassed to show that today … the show is losing its appeal.. #TheChase." @OfficialCraigK declared. "WORST. CHASE. FINAL.EVER!! #TheChase."

@Realkidgone opined: "Unless #thechase starts getting better contestants, it’s finished!" @RealEnli seemed to agree writing: "And this a resounding epitaph of a once great show! #TheChase."

@IndeedItsMark fumed: "Pardon my language. But that was f****** embarrassing! And some easy general knowledge there Six! #TheChase."

However a viewer with the handle @Mysteron_Voice felt sympathy for the contestant after his below par performance. "Oh dear, only six, but, as ever, he's got the balls to be on there, whilst I'm sat here on my sofa with a cup of tea and piece of cake ... #TheChase," they wrote.

For his part, Mark took to X to apologise for his resounding victory. "Sorry guys, I had a job to do but that was no fun #thechase @OneQnShootout should confirm that this season's teams are statistically poor," he penned and included a sad face.

Matt found himself playing solo for the £3,000 prize pot after the other three contestants were beaten after their cash builder rounds.

Prior to starting his cash builder, he revealed to host Bradely Walsh that he had previously owned a pet shop and was hoping to open one again with any winnings from the show.

Unfortunately, he walked away empty-handed after his poor performance in the final chase.

Mark had attempted to reassure him he was still in with a chance telling him: "I have good news. Twice I faced lower scores than this. And in Croatia one of the chasers once lost to five."

Still from The Chase

Unfortunately for Matt, there was to be no repeat of Croatia, and despite one pushback, Mark easily won with one minute and 18 seconds remaining.

"You have to take this in comfort - you're the only person who made it back," Bradley told him before stripping him of the £3,000.

"It was just one of those days from the moment Elspeth (another contestant) started to miss one or two that perhaps another day she might have got - it snowballed from there," Mark pointed out.

"It really wasn't day but you got a pushback from me," he pointed out.

The Chase is on ITV weekdays at 5pm.
