Danny Jones' estranged father hasn't seen son in 18 years as he breaks silence

Danny Jones' 72-year-old father shared his heartbreak as he claimed he hadn't seen his famous son in 18 years.

He insisted he'd had an "excellent" relationship with the I'm A Celebrity hopeful in his childhood years and helped support his dream of boyband fame. However, his marriage broke down after Danny and his sister left home, and Alan walked out in 2005.

Danny broke down in tears in the jungle this week as he discussed his battle with panic attacks, while he'd previously admitted that he'd sought therapy for a "massive bout of anxiety" caused by his parents' breakup. Danny believes his struggle ultimately made him stronger, but his dad, on the other hand, says he's longing for the chance of a pint and catch-up with his son.

However, it could be complicated, as Alan now lives in a picturesque village near Benidorm with current wife Sharon, whom he says he first got intimate with on the night that Danny and his McFly bandmates appeared in a cameo for Casualty. A "bitter divorce" from his mum Kathy soon followed.

Alan claimed in an interview for the Daily Mail that he believes his son could be avoiding him out of loyalty to his mum. "I feel as though he's painted himself into a corner and he doesn't know how to get out," he argued.

"I think because he loves his mum so much he's protected her, and I think any reunion with me, and this is only my opinion, would upset his mum.

"I don't think he wants to do that, and I understand that."

However, Danny recently claimed that he sees reaching out as a parental responsibility and not a son's.

He stated in an interview with the Star on Sunday: "If you're a dad then it's your job to do it. It shouldn't be my job to do it. It's his. He decided to have me."

Alan has now moved to a two-bedroom chalet in the La Alberca resort in Spain, where windows boast mountain views and there's a communal residents' swimming pool.

He claims it's always been his ambition to move to Spain, where he now DJs and presents a three-hour show on Radio Fresh five days a week.

Alan added that although his son has sent him a photo of his grandson Cooper, he's never seen him in person, while it has been 18 years since he so much as shook Danny's hand.

"I always keep my fingers crossed that one day [a meet-up] will happen, but Danny is in charge of that, not me," he claimed.

"I can't just fly back to England and say 'Hi, I'm here', that's too much for him. I think one day, you know, I always hope it will happen."
