A Minecraft Movie trailer starring Jason Momoa and Jack Black
A new trailer released for an upcoming film featuring Jack Black has elicited mixed responses, with some fans eagerly anticipating what they believe could be a 'new contender for the worst movie ever made'.
The comedic actor, famed for his roles in School of Rock and the Jumanji reboot, is set to appear in a live-action adaptation of the globally popular video game Minecraft.
Originally launched in early access in 2009 as Cave Game, Minecraft has since evolved into a worldwide sensation.
Developed by Mojang studios, this sandbox game offers players the freedom to explore and construct virtually anything they desire from basic blocks.
A film adaptation is slated for release next year, and a newly released trailer provides the most comprehensive glimpse yet at the realised world, although not everyone is convinced.

Tenacious D frontman Black will portray Steve, the player character from the game since its full release in 2011.
Joining him is Aquaman's Jason Momoa, one of four misfits who grapples with everyday problems until he is abruptly transported through a mysterious portal into the Overworld: a strange, cubic wonderland that thrives on imagination.
To return home, they must master this world while fending off Piglins and Zombies and embark on a magical quest with an unexpected, expert crafter, Steve (Black). Together, their adventure will compel all five to be brave and to reconnect with the qualities that make each of them uniquely creative...the very skills they need to thrive back in the real world, reports the Mirror.
The latest trailer for the much-anticipated film has sparked a frenzy among fans, offering a glimpse into the Minecraft-inspired universe and its star-studded cast.
Reactions have been polarised, with some viewers even calling for the movie to be axed before hitting cinemas, drawing parallels to another video game adaptation disaster. One viewer remarked: "This feels like what happened with Borderlands all over again."
Others are torn, their fondness for the original game clashing with their reaction to the film's portrayal.
A fan expressed their mixed feelings: "I have a love-hate relationship with this movie, I feel grossed out by the fuzzy creatures but excited because it's Minecraft and I love Minecraft."
Meanwhile, one comment highlighted Jack Black's appearance: "Jack black doing another cameo as Jack Black."
And in a twist of expectations, another social media user hinted at the film's potential cult status due to its perceived shortcomings: "I'm so excited we may actually have a new contender for the worst movie ever made."
A Minecraft Movie is in cinemas April 2025.
