I'm A Celeb: Christopher Biggins recalls rat experience

Christopher Biggins appeared in the GB News studio this morning alongside Eamonn Holmes to confess just how arduous I'm A Celebrity had been for him.

The actor and TV presenter, now 75, originally jetted to the Australian jungle for the show in 2007 - but now he admits aspects of it have left him "psychologically damaged" to this day. He grimaced as he shared his worst moment - encountering "200 rats".

He explained of one occasion: "I managed to fall asleep on a hammock [underground]and then I woke up and felt something on my crotch... I thought it was my water bottle, but I realised after a while it was a rat!" He continued that he instantly "screamed and pushed it off" but that he still has a vivid memory of it.

Eamonn replied: "You're not psychologically damaged?" However, without skipping a beat, Biggins shot back: "I am!"

The controversial show has seen stars eat everything from crocodile tongue to kangaroo testicles, while they've also been crammed into coffins and had live tarantulas poured over them. Those refuse to take part in gory trials on the show will prove hugely unpopular with their campmates, as they could then be left without dinner as a result.

Understandably, it can all get a bit too much for contestants - and Biggins is one of those who's admitted to feeling the pressure.

He added that this year, he'll be rooting for Coleen Rooney - childhood sweetheart and now wife of ex-football ace Wayne Rooney - as there's "just something about her".

Biggins also discussed whether the show may have "had its day" - an accusation also levelled at Strictly Come Dancing after the bad publicity surrounding incidents with Giovanni Pernice and Graziano di Prima.

He mused: "Out of all reality shows, [people say] Strictly has had its day, Big Brother has had its day but there is a thing about I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here that everyone seems to love!"

Meanwhile, Biggins took part in a furious exchange in the GB News studio about whether Britain is now an "ageist society".

It followed conversation about how "potentially illegal immigrants" could be eligible for free bus passes, but the older generation don't qualify for one until age 66 (or 60 in London).

"There's no doubt in my mind that Britain is an ageist society - you're despised!" Eamonn Holmes exclaimed.

An angry Biggins chimed in: "I wish we hadn't worked. I wish we'd lived off the dole or something!"
