BBC Breakfast: Naga apologises after coughing fit

Naga Munchetty was forced to apologise as she repeatedly interrupted an interview on BBC Breakfast today.

The presenter and her co-star Charlie Stayt were speaking to Dr Tamzin Furtado, an animal welfare researcher from Liverpool University, about the use of fireworks and how it can affect animals.

Asked what her knowledge and experience was, she said: "With fireworks, there's a lot more stimuli going on and animals are much more senmsitive to that. Not just the sound, the vibrations and the lights. They would affect animals in ways we wouldn't know. Dogs or cats or horses might experience them much more strongly than us."

Dr Furtado reveals she lost her horse due to a firework related injury, before she explained how people have their own experiences of their dogs and cats struggling with the fireworks.

However, multiple times through the interview, Naga struggled with a cough and kept apologising for it as Charlie took over the interview. "I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry," she said as she kept coughing.

As the interview ended, Charlie thanked Dr Furtado for her advice, before adding: "Dr Tamzin Furtado, thank you so much for talking to us. Naga is going to get some water and we're going to go to the sport now."

Naga took the opportunity to apologise once more, where she said sorry to viewers and then again to Dr Furtado.

Naga regularly fronts the BBC show alongside Charlie, with Jon Kay and Sally Nugent also regularly fronting the programme. Today, Naga and Charlie chatted with a multitude of people including Vinnie Jones.

There was also a chat with Paddy McGuiness about his mammoth cycling challenge, which has seen him cycle from Wales to Scotland on a kids bike to raise money for Children in Need.

*BBC Breakfast airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer at 6am.
