Doctors, the hit BBC series, has honoured the late Timothy West, as fans prepare to bid farewell to the series with its final episode airing on Thursday November 14th.

The esteemed actor passed away "peacefully in his sleep" on Tuesday November 12th, and his last television appearance graced screens on Wednesday November 13th in an episode of the BBC Daytime drama, which is set to conclude after a 24-year run.

A heartfelt message from the 'Doctors' official X account was shared on Wednesday: "The Doctors family are deeply saddened to hear of Timothy West's passing."

"His final on-screen appearance in today's Doctors episode is a moving reminder of his incredible talent, and it was an honour to have him join us.

"We send heartfelt condolences to his family and friends."

In the poignant Wednesday episode, West portrayed Artie Simkins, a character who faces an emergency when his neighbour suffers a fall in their garden.

As 'Doctors' pays homage to West, it also reflects on its own legacy.

Their X account posted: "(Tissues at the ready.) Today, on the last ever Doctors: The Mill staff and Graham have a final showdown and Scarlett's in no mood to celebrate her birthday. BBC One 14:00".

"There will be no 'next time' post after the show today, but there is a documentary 'Doctors, A Celebration' to commemorate 24 years of the beloved daytime soap opera. BBC One 14:35."

Doctors star Chris Walker, who has portrayed police officer Rob Hollins since 2009, recently expressed his sorrow over the cancellation of the beloved daytime drama after its two-decade run, describing the decision as a disheartening loss for the entertainment field.

Speaking to TV Times magazine, he confessed: "I was - and still am to a degree - a bit bereaved, which I know might sound dramatic."

Walker recounted his partner Sharon's insight into the emotional impact: "My other half, Sharon, said to me, 'It wasn't just a job, it became your identity,' and it's very sad to lose that."

Reflecting on the strong bonds formed, he added: "And to not be with all the fabulous people who've become close friends."

Despite the setback, Walker acknowledges the transient nature of things, remarking: "But life moves on."

He concluded with an understanding note towards the broadcaster's decision: "Nothing is forever and the BBC have made their choice, and that's the way it is."
