Virgin River season 6 official trailer
Virgin River star Tim Matheson has confirmed an exciting update on the state of season seven more than a month before the sixth outing is set to hit Netflix.
The hit small-town drama has followed the romantic saga of Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) for the past five years and amassed a fanbase of millions.
Earlier this year, the streamer renewed Virgin River for a seventh season, making it their longest ongoing drama and longest-running English-language series ever.
We’re now just over a month away before Mel and Jack return to screens on Thursday, December 19, a year after the show’s stunning Christmas double bill in 2023.
Following a well-earned Christmas break, Matheson has revealed production on season seven will officially begin in March 2025.
This puts the expected release date of season seven somewhere in late 2025 or possibly early 2026.
The beloved TV star, who has portrayed Vernon ‘Doc’ Mullins in every season of Virgin River so far, went on to describe how the cast has become like a “family” over the last few years.
“I love the feeling of the show, and also the cast and crew have all been congealed into family,” he said.
“So it’s really wonderful that we all now think of each other as family. It is one of my favourite experiences, and I love the show.”
The actor was recently interviewed by Anna Daly to promote his new memoir Damn Glad to Meet You: My Seven Decades in the Hollywood Trenches, and he explained why Doc has been one of his favourite characters to portray in his long TV career.
“I love playing Doc Mullins because I’ve played a lot of doctors, and I did a lot of research about country doctors who work in small towns, where you know all of your patients,” Matheson said.
“It’s a different kind of connection with the people you serve.
“When you walk down the street, you see them; you see them at the bar at night. It’s a different kind of medicine, really.
“This is the story of a guy who left the big city to get back to treating patients one-on-one, and I love that.”
Netflix subscribers are gearing up for another rollercoaster ride in Virgin River as the sixth season will be building up to an unmissable wedding for Mel and Jack.
Meanwhile, Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) appears to be several months pregnant, there’s still plenty of shady business for Dan Brady (Ben Hollingsworth) to watch out for and Preacher (Colin Lawrence) and Kaia’s (Kandyse McClure) romance is still going strong.
Virgin River season 6 will be released Thursday, December 19 on Netflix.
